Imagine walking into a forest and plucking a few cherries from a nearby tree, grabbing a handful of raspberries and pinching a sprig of mint off a nearby plant. Now imagine this forest of food exists in your backyard.
Have your home-scale garden mimic a forest ecosystem but instead of just ornamentals, add berries, fruit trees and edible perennials to your landscape. Learn how to apply the principles of ecology to create an edible forest in your backyard while regenerating your landscape and supporting the natural environment! These principles apply to sites of all sizes and purposes; from urban backyards to farm scale enterprises.
This weekend workshop will take you through designing, installing, and maintaining a cold climate food forest and include hands-on activities such as grafting, propagation, seed starting, worm farming and much more! Leave with a toolkit of knowledge and materials to get you started on your own site.
Kareen Erbe is highly skilled permaculture educator and consultant. She is owner of Broken Ground in Bozeman, MT..
Jerome Osentowski is the founder of Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute in Basalt, CO and author of “The Forest Garden Greenhouse”.
